I have an '88 XJ, with '96 engine (keeping the '88 injection and electronics), '90 front D30, '94 AX15, '95 8 1/4" rear, and the original '88 T-case. All these swaps occurred at different times during the life of the Jeep. The only thing I ever had to deal with was to change the front planetary gears in the T-case to accect the output shaft from the AX15. It origially came with the Puegot 5 Speed... As an aside... avoid the Pukejoe... it's junk.
Sooo... with all that said, it seems pretty much anything is possible without too much trouble.
