I believe that the offer made was $100. That is just moronic to
expect her to take it as anything *but* an unnecessarily rude
response. Some people don't like Howard Stern, and they *****. I
say change the station. If you don't like her multiple posts, then
SKIP OVER THEM. Good Lord, guys, we have some current members here
who post just as often, maybe even more, and with less quality of
content. (I'll happily claim to be one of them.) I think that a
Scrambler for $2,500 is a GREAT deal, and after all of the recent
posts about people wanting "project Jeeps" I can't believe that no
one has snatched it up. My brother, in New York State, is looking
for a CJ-8, and cannot find one in even fair shape for less than
$4,500. This one sounds pretty decent, so, Katie, I will tell me
brother about your rig. Good luck with selling it, and post as often
as you would like. I don't remember any rules about limits for
posts, but I would suggest joining the AZVJC at www.azvjc.org and
posting it on the "Classified" section, since it was pointed out that
your Jeep is not found there. If it is (I did not look) then
nevermind...

Katie, that made no sense. Perhaps nobody here want's your jeep. After several attempts you are beating a dead horse. At least change the subject line of the e-mail to "jeep for sale" or something.

Well I think that will do it for me; no more e-mails. Good luck I'll
still be reading the classifieds and looking at trail runs. I knew
taking off all the stickers was a sign!!!!
We have grown so large that it just isn't fun anymore, or maybe it's
just the *****ing. I have
met enough nice people to not need all these e-mails and *****ing.
Special thanks to Bill Mish without his welding on a bracket I wouldn't
have my lift on.
Scott for a cool bumper and fun runs
Joey thank you for pushing my weenie *** up Martinez canyon and many
other trails
Joe west for his generosity and assistance.
Maiden for the challenges, some day I'll get a real axle and maybe even
a locker
Duffy, I'll be over some time soon again
Randy Siade TY!!!!
Others: Allan, Stu, Lachlan, john K, Steve from Tucson, Flexxy, anyone
else I forgot.
Maybe I'll receive e-mails again once I see we have matured and adjusted
to our huge growth.
OH ****, LES how could I almost forget you. I still owe you one.
Don't get too excited!!! I'm not leaving the club, just the e-mails.

Subject: [az_vjc] update to poor drive shaft service
Importance: High
Some of you may remember that I posted my disappointment with Dicks Driveshaft shop back around the Easter time frame. I had dented my front driveshaft and took it to them for a balance job. They re-tubed it because they claimed it would not balance.
I posted that I was unhappy with their work as I got it back with needle bearings missing from the front axle end u-joint. Details/pics at:
http://www.stu-offroad.com/misc/shaft-1.htm
On my last FJ run, I noticed that my front drive shaft was squeaking again (TJ owners know all to well about this problem). I was surprised to notice it since I had just tore it down and did a complete grease job on the CV u-joints this past October. Given that much of our summer was spent NOT wheelin, and with only one trip to Moab since October, I really havent rolled up that much mileage.
So, yesterday morning, I dropped the front drive shaft and took the u-joints out to grease them (again).
As I was taking things apart, I kept thinking that something was not right. I took at look at the pics on my web site (from the October write-up) and quickly realized what was wrong.
The centering ball in the CV joint lightly rides in a large round cup, so to speak, that helps keep it free from dust and moisture (a dust boot if you would). You can see it here, http://www.stu-offroad.com/misc/images/ds-13.jpg
Well, guess what is missing from my front drive shaft? I suppose it is possible that it may have fallen off since I had the work done this past Easter. But&.I really doubt it. I feel quite confident that Dicks Driveshaft shop left it off (or broke it off?) when they did the work. It was obvious that they had taken the CV u-joints apart as there were two end caps with missing needle bearings in them (just like the problem with the axle end u-joint). There were NO missing needle bearings when I assembled them last October.
No&.I did not go down there to talk to them about this. If I did, someone would have to be springing for my bond and that would not be cool. They are not worth the trouble.
IMHO, this shop puts out some poor quality work at the best. You can certainly spend your money there if you wish, but Ill not pay them another $100 to screw up a drive shaft. Yes, it is only one data point that I am offering as proof. But there is NO reason that anyone should have to completely tear down a CV drive shaft to check needle bearings, etc. after they get it home. Since they can not be trusted, you would be a fool for not QAing the work yourself, true? They have already proven that to you.
Just thought I would share my recent discovery. Ill be looking for a new shop in a bit since I dont expect this drive shaft to last very long. With nothing protecting the centering ball from dirt and moisture, I dont think it will last too much longer.

Well you have obviously come to that point in your life. How old are
you again?!!! Any real man would have said that it would be nice to be
able to look at a picture for than just a flip of the page. We could
check out the jeeps too!!!

Jeeps with girls on them? Seems like a waste to me. We'd be so busy
looking at the suspensions and stuff that the girls would be all but
unnoticed.

Since Miller is a pretty poor version of a watered-down American
pils style beer, are the girls and Jeeps going to be watered-down as
well? LOL!!! Nothing like Jeeps and wet t-shirts to help determine
what day of the week it is... :P

My main problem with her posts is that she doesn't change the subject, she
just replies to an existing thread. This forces me to read her ad yet
again. If it said "jeep for sale" I could simply delete the post without
reading it. Not to worry, I just blocked her e-mail address :-)

Hello All,
Joey Kulich lead a trail run Sunday, August 4, 2002 across Turkey Creek
Well Almost didn't make it on this trip. A scorpion stung me last night and the foot is in a bit of pain. Feels like it is tingly, like it is asleep. But being the true Jeeper I am, even a scorpion can't keep me off the trails in my Jeep.
Anyway this was a "pre-run" for the upcoming Annual LP to CK run. I wanted to see the trail conditions and plot it on the GPS.
I met up with Gary, Joe and Hogan. We all aired down and gave a few extra minutes for any would be stragglers. I was a bit nervous about getting lost. I had only been on this trail twice before. To my dismay we made it with only one back track (because of a wash out) and a couple of side tracks which made the trail interesting.
Unfortunately the creeks are dry even thought there was evidence of rain in the past 24 to 48 hours. Quite a bit of the trail is narrow and we all got our fair share of desert pin striping... well maybe the Camo Cow got a bit more then the rest of us.
It was really awesome watching the Camo Cow crawl. Gary has a really nice set up.
Joe has a great setup to in his Little Black Willys Jeep. That thing will go just about anywhere.
Hogan did a great job in his nearly stock and open CJ7. Oh and with street tires I might add.
There was little rock crawlin', and hill climbin' as usual on this trip. We did stop and break at some old house ruins and at the Howard Canyon Mine (?).
At the end we stopped at the bar in Cleater cooled of a bit with a cold one and headed out.
OK ok so this is where I made the wrong turn. I was looking for the road that takes you to I17 before the Sunset Point rest stop and made the first left when I should have made the second left. Oh well live and learn.
Hogan made this turn so he could head up to Prescott and the rest of us took off through Bumble Bee to the black top. We aired up and went on our way.
Thank you guys for coming out and making this a memorable trip. I had a blast.
Pictures to follow.

Subject: Re: Auto tranny swap done !
Thanks Joe.
Sometimes it's just the small things that can be big things. Like today, when we hooked the battery back up and shifted into reverse, and bingo, backup lights. Stepped on the brake, and bingo, stop lights. Flipped the switch (manual, in the cab) off and on for the torque converter lockup, and could hear the relay, in the tranny click. Then after pouring 4 or 5 quarts of ATF in, starting the engine, in park, then, with the brake applied, shifting through the gears, and the Jeep wanted to go !! Lastly, actually backing out of the driveway, then putting it in (D)rive, letting off the brake, giving it some gas, and it not only went forward, but actually shifted throught the gears. And, lastly, in third gear, flipping the switch for the torque converter lockup, and low and behold, it locked up as it should
Best,
Fred

On the flip side, with the creek bed dry there are tons of rocks and washes to
try. A number of places along the bed are as easy or hard as you're willing
to try. (Tread Lightly, of course!)

Sure does, a couple more inches of height would be just right. Departure
angle would be a bit better, his bumper got the most scrapes today I think.

Pretty much! I had a '47 CJ-2A, locked, with a Ford 302 and eventually I got
bored with it because it made trails TOO easy. Almost fell asleep on the
Rubicon a couple of times. :-)

ATs...they were ATs! Suck in mud for sure, no real complaints otherwise.![]()
I had MTs on another daily driver and decided not to do that again, if I went
wheelin more often I'd consider some MT/Rs...that is, if I had money and
wasn't selling the Jeep.

I was surprised at how close I-17 was from there, it only took me about 10-15
mins to get to it. Woohoo!

Thanks for leading it! It was nice to get out and run a new trail this
summer. Given more time, I think it would've been fun to do some exploring
of some of the areas along the way. There's a lot of history up there.

You really want to see my foot. Scorpion stings really don't leave much of a trace just a little pink spot. It's weird because it just feels like my foot is asleep and kinda numb.

Hello All,
Joey Kulich lead a trail run Sunday, August 4, 2002 across Turkey Creek

Maybe they were just having a bad day. I just had the length on both my driveshafts changed and they did a top notch job. They even installed a couple free u-joints.

Some of you may remember that I posted my disappointment with Dick¹s Driveshaft shop back around the Easter time frame.
Given that much of our summer was spent NOT wheelin¹, and with only one trip to Moab since October, I really haven¹t rolled up that much mileage.
So, yesterday morning, I dropped the front drive shaft and took the u-joints out to grease them (again).
As I was taking things apart, I kept thinking that something was not right. I took at look at the pics on my web site (from the October write-up) and quickly realized what was wrong.
The centering ball in the CV joint lightly rides in a large round ³cup², so to speak, that helps keep it free from dust and moisture (a dust boot if you would). You can see it here, http://www.stu-offroad.com/misc/images/ds-13.jpg
Well, guess what is missing from my front drive shaft? I suppose it is possible that it may have ³fallen² off since I had the work done this past Easter. ButŠ.I really doubt it. I feel quite confident that Dick¹s Driveshaft shop left it off (or broke it off?) when they did the work. It was obvious that they had taken the CV u-joints apart as there were two end caps with missing needle bearings in them (just like the problem with the axle end u-joint). There were NO missing needle bearings when I assembled them last October.
NoŠ.I did not go down there to talk to them about this. If I did, someone would have to be springing for my bond and that would not be cool. They are not worth the trouble.
IMHO, this shop puts out some poor quality work at the best. You can certainly spend your money there if you wish, but I¹ll not pay them another $100 to screw up a drive shaft.
I¹ll be looking for a new shop in a bit since I don¹t expect this drive shaft to last very long. With nothing protecting the centering ball from dirt and moisture, I don¹t think it will last too much longer.

Well, after much sweat, much work, and many lessons learned, it's finished !!!!! Only one little minor issue to fix. A little binding in the shifting of the xfer case. I'll check tomorrow, but we're betting the the bell crank and/or the rod that connects the bell crank to the shifting lever on the xfer case is different between the 5 speed and the auto. The bracket that bolts to the xfer case for the linkage was.
Anyway, I have to shorten the front driveshaft and lengthen the rear (I love a longer rear driveshaft), and that's it. We have the rear driveshaft in and it's fine to drive, just can't wheel with it that short.
Everything works that we had to wire !!!!!! Backup lights, torque converter lockup, tranny fluid temp guage, etc. !!!!!!
IT'S GREAT !!!!
I can't believe I drove it home today, and even put in to highway miles (I-10). This is the end of a year long project (well, thinking about it for that long).
The only real damage was that I broke the first joint of my right index finger, and have to wear a split on it for 6 weeks, but, hey, I'm more than happy.
I can't thank Dan enough. Without his help (especially since I was half crippled with the broken finger), knowledge, tools, and just general skills, this would not have happened....
I'm ready to wheel, well as soon as I get the driveshafts down, which should be this week. I'm also thinking that I'll be ditching the Tera 4:1..
Pictures to follow in a few days. Stu, I'll have a write up for you also...

Jeoy, you, without a doubt, got popped by a Bark Scorpion. They produce a neurotoxic venom. The numbness and tingling are classic symptoms. Out of the three species of scorpions found in AZ., the Barks are probably the most common (also the smallest), and they have a medically significant venom. The sting can be very dangerous to the young, aged.
Best,
Fred
